Your Role
As the Senior QHSE Specialist (f/m/d), you will provide strategic leadership and executive oversight for all quality, health, safety, and environmental initiatives across Zelestra’s operations in Germany. This role demands a visionary leader capable of shaping a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with international standards and local regulations, and driving continuous improvement in QHSE performance. You will work closely with executive leadership, program and project managers, operational teams, and external stakeholders to embed QHSE excellence into every aspect of our business in Germany.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the overarching global QHSE strategy aligned with corporate objectives.
- Lead the design and strategic development of the QHSE department; build and manage high-performing interdisciplinary teams with the perspective to develop as an Head of QHSE (f/m/x) for Zelestra Germany
- Establish a comprehensive, integrated QHSE management system compliant with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and other relevant standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance, environmental sustainability, and quality standards across all projects.
- Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable local, national, and international occupational health & safety, social responsibility, and environmental regulations.
- Lead enterprise risk management efforts by proactively identifying hazards and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Oversee incident investigations at the highest level; ensure thorough root cause analysis and effective corrective actions.
- Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for QHSE metrics; analyse trends to inform strategic decision-making.
- Cultivate a proactive safety culture through leadership engagement, training programs, communication campaigns, behavioural safety initiatives, and best practices sharing.
- Collaborate with senior management to integrate QHSE considerations into business planning, project execution strategies, procurement processes, and operational procedures.
- Represent Zelestra in external audits, certifications, industry forums, stakeholder engagements related to QHSE.
- Manage budgets for QHSE programs; allocate resources effectively to meet organizational and project goals.
- Lead crisis management planning related to health & safety incidents or environmental emergencies.
- Foster innovation in safety practices; promote the adoption of new technologies or methodologies that improve safety outcomes.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and COO and executive team on all matters related to QHSE strategy and performance.
- Promote an inclusive environment that encourages open dialogue about safety concerns without fear of reprisal.
- Drive cultural change by embedding safety as a core value at all organizational levels.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to program and prohect managers and site leaders on best practices in QHSE management.
- Influence organizational decision-making through data-driven insights and strategic foresight.
Job Requirements
- Results-oriented approach and strong alignment with our mission in the renewable energy sector.
- Masters degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety or related field; advanced certifications preferred (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma/International General Certificate or equivalent).
- Extensive experience leading large-scale global QHSE functions within complex industries such as renewable energy or engineering projects.
- Proven track record developing and implementing integrated management systems aligned with ISO standards.
- Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of an organization.
- Strategic thinker with excellent operational expertise; capable of translating vision into actionable plans.
- Exceptional communication skills in English; additional languages are advantageous.
- Willingness to travel up to 30–50% as required.
