Substation Electrical Engineer Specialist

Mission

Your mission will be to ensure the correct definition, review and coordination of electrical engineering for substations, ensuring technical and regulatory compliance in all phases of the project. Collaborate with internal teams, external engineering firms, suppliers and utilities to develop viable solutions and mitigate risks. Provide technical support to Purchasing and Bidding, and ensure the quality, traceability and timely delivery of documentation. Lead technical discussions with external agents and contribute to the smooth development and completion of the project.

Responsibilities

 During project development

• Contracting specialized studies.
• Support the Development team by estimating power losses and assessing PPA technical feasibility.
• Identify technical constraints and risks associated with grid interconnection.
• Prepare document lists and support the preparation of critical drawings required for administrative and utility permitting processes.

Support to the Procurement Department

• Review technical specifications for purchasing power transformers and other critical equipment.
• Assist in the technical evaluation of proposals, data sheets, and supplier quotations.
• Ensure all equipment complies with agreed technical specifications and standards.

Support to the Tendering/Offers Department

• Review and complement technical bid comparisons.
• Validate that proposals comply with the technical specifications, applicable standards, and project requirements.
• Prepare technical remarks and recommendations.

Engineering and Deliverable Management

• Lead the review of electrical engineering prepared by external engineering firms.
• Manage the traceability and control of all engineering deliverables.
• Coordinate technical communications between engineering, suppliers, EPC contractors, and internal departments.
• Validate compliance with technical specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Review and validate As-Built documentation at project completion.

External Management

• Attend meetings with utilities, authorities, and external entities on technical matters.
• Participate in follow-up meetings with construction, EPC contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Coordinate deliverables and requirements for interconnection, permitting, and regulatory processes.

Reporting

• Prepare technical reports and engineering progress updates.
• Document conclusions from reviews, technical issues, and decisions made.
• Maintain the project’s technical records up to date.
• Contribute to achieving the department’s Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental objectives.
• Be familiar with and comply with relevant standards, manuals, and procedures affecting the role.

Job Requirements

• Education: Degree in Electrical Engineering; master's degree or specialisation in substations, power systems or renewable energies (desirable).
• Experience: 3–5 years in substation projects (45–400 kV), third-party engineering review and support in tenders and procurement.
• Technical knowledge: High voltage, substations, primary and secondary equipment, single-line diagrams, protections, SCADA and IEC/IEEE standards.
• Skills: Working in multidisciplinary teams, technical analysis, effective communication, project management and deliverable control.
• Languages: Advanced English; availability to travel.
• Desirable: HV/renewable energy certifications and knowledge of trends in photovoltaic and wind energy.
