Project Environmental Specialist (Babilonia)

Mission
At Zelestra, we are looking for an Environmental Specialist (field-based) to join the Security, Environmental & Social (SES) team of our Latam Business Unit, based at a Project located in La Joya, Arequipa. The main mission of this role is to ensure compliance with all environmental obligations on behalf of Zelestra as the project owner, supervising all activities related to the execution of the environmental instrument managed by the EPC. In addition, the specialist will manage all procedures required by the environmental authority to ensure the correct implementation of the project’s environmental provisions, maintaining fluid communication with the various construction teams and reporting directly to the Environmental Coordination at the LATAM level. All responsibilities must be carried out in alignment with Zelestra’s corporate guidelines, local regulations, occupational health and safety standards, IFC Performance Standards, the Equator Principles, the Escazú Agreement and the UN Guiding Principles.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the environmental team assigned in the field by the EPC to ensure compliance with environmental obligations.
- Coordinate with the Project Construction Manager the process of hiring specialized consultants required to meet environmental obligations committed in the environmental instrument, IFC standards and the Equator Principles, as well as to close any identified gaps.
- Supervise Project Managers and technical teams in optimizing project design by incorporating environmental considerations and ensuring compliance with the environmental instrument.
- Supervise Project Managers and technical and financial teams in project planning, ensuring that timelines associated with environmental processes and permits are incorporated, and that all permits are in place prior to and during construction.
- Transfer information, commitments, stakeholder engagement records and other relevant environmental management aspects of the project to the environmental team responsible for the construction and operation phases, providing on-site support when required.
- Monitor and ensure strict compliance with environmental commitments during the construction and the operation and maintenance phases, as well as maintain custody of all information submitted to authorities.
- Contribute to the project’s risk register, including mitigation plans and lessons learned.
- Manage contracts with specialized consultants and attorneys providing services to the environmental area.
- Prepare management reports as required (internal and external) and support internal and external environmental audits.
- Compile and review information that must be submitted to financing entities, ensuring all requirements are met.
- Conduct internal audits and environmental compliance audits of the construction works, ensuring full adherence to the environmental instrument.
Job Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree or Professional Title in Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources Engineering, Forestry Engineering, Biology, Law, or a related field.
- At least 6 years of experience in roles with similar responsibilities in the energy, mining, and/or hydrocarbons sectors.
- Demonstrated fieldwork experience in the Arequipa region.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and budgeting. Knowledge of Power BI and Project is an advantage.
- Experience in managing geographic information systems.
- Valid A-I driver's license.
- Residence in Arequipa or availability to live in the area during the project’s development.
